ES English as an Additional Language (EAL) Teacher
We are seeking an experienced teacher to join our Elementary School faculty to support multilingual students acquiring English as an Additional Language. We require five years of experience and current certification as an EAL specialist. The incoming teacher will support the growth and development of inclusionary RTI practices, instructional coaching, and PLC collaborative work (following the Dufour model) in our elementary school.
Tech confidence and competence is required. The ES EAL teacher will need to demonstrate leadership for pushing in, co-planning and co-teaching with colleagues in several subject areas.

Preferred Qualifications Include:
- A demonstrated ability to lead high levels of student learning.
- Experience in American or other international school curriculum and program models.
- An aptitude for building and maintaining positive relationships with students, colleagues and parents.
- Willingness to collaborate with elementary school teachers
- Experience with UDL unit planning, co-planning and co-teaching.
- Master’s Degree in Education, Second Language Acquisition, or related field preferred.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education and relevant ELL/EAL/MLL teaching experience and certifications.
- Current elementary school teaching certification.
- Strong understanding and respect for a diversity of cultures and the needs of language learners.
- Has life experiences that demonstrate, among other things, a growth mindset, versatility, adaptability and resilience.
- Effective communication skills utilizing a variety of mediums and techniques.
Kaohsiung American School (KAS) is a private, not-for-profit day school established in 1989 for the children of expatriate families in Kaohsiung. The school is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, and offers the IB’s MYP and DP programmes. We receive annual grants and sponsorship from the US Department of State.
Kaohsiung American School moved into its beautiful, purpose-built campus buildings in 2015/2016. We are recognized as the premier international school in southern Taiwan. We currently enroll 780 students from 40+ countries, although most of our students share Taiwanese heritage and Mandarin as a first language.
