One to One Paraprofessional - Elementary School (Part Time 50%)

Paraprofessional Position Summary:  The paraprofessional provides instructional, behavioral, and social-emotional support to students under the guidance of certified teachers and specialists. This role is essential in fostering inclusive, safe, and supportive learning environments, particularly for students with diverse learning profiles. This role reports to the Divisional Principal. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build strong, respectful relationships with students, teachers, families, and support staff.
  • Collaborate with teachers to adapt instruction and materials for accessible learning.
  • Support the implementation of accommodations, behavior plans, and instructional activities based on the student’s Individualized Learning Plan (ILP).
  • Promote student independence in social, emotional, and academic skills while providing appropriate scaffolding.
  • Assist with classroom routines, academic tasks, small group instruction, and use of assistive technology. 
  • Maintain data and provide regular progress updates to the Learning Support Coordinator and classroom teachers.
  • Facilitate social interactions and model inclusive, respectful behavior.
  • Support the student in the use of assistive technologies and computer assisted learning programs. 
  • Support executive functioning development (e.g., organization, planning, transitions, problem-solving).
  • Lead small group lessons as directed by teachers or support staff.
  • Maintain a cooperative and professional working relationship with the Principal, Learning Support Coordinator, students, parents, staff, and community on and off campus.
  • Uphold confidentiality and demonstrate ethical conduct in all student interactions.
  • Actively contribute to a positive, collaborative school culture and demonstrate commitment to child safeguarding.
  • Support other duties as assigned by the Learning Support Coordinator or Student Support Services leadership.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma required; bachelor’s degree preferred. 
  • Fluency in English; fluency in Mandarin is a plus.
  • Experience working in a school or special education setting is preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with students, parents, and faculty.
  • Flexible, resilient, and committed to inclusive practices.
