Looking for a High School ELL teacher with expertise in language acquisition strategies, fostering inclusive classrooms, and empowering multilingual learners to thrive academically and socially.
Kaohsiung American School (KAS) is a private, not-for-profit day school established in 1989 for the children of expatriate families in Kaohsiung. The school is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, and offers the IB’s MYP and DP programmes. We receive annual grants and sponsorship from the US Department of State.
Kaohsiung American School moved into its beautiful, purpose-built campus buildings in 2015/2016. We are recognized as the premier international school in southern Taiwan. We currently enroll 770 students from 40+ countries, although most of our students share Taiwanese heritage and Mandarin as a first language. The High School enrolls 260+ students and includes 35+ full or part time faculty members. Every year, 65–85% of our students are full IB Diploma candidates, and almost all other students will take certificates in one or more subject areas. All our students are multilingual learners. - Three 1-to-1 paraprofessionals to support students with more significant needs

HS English Language Learning (ELL) Teacher
We are seeking an experienced teacher to join our High School faculty to support English Language Learners. We require five years of experience and current certification as an ELL specialist. The incoming teacher will support the growth and development of inclusionary RTI practices, instructional coaching, and PLC collaborative work (following the Dufour model) in our high school.
Tech confidence and competence is required. The HS ELL teacher will need to demonstrate leadership for pushing in, co-planning and co-teaching with colleagues in several subject areas.
We look for faculty members with a flexible “can do” approach to teaching and learning, a sense of humor, and a desire to contribute to school improvement as a team player. Additionally, our team is seeking faculty who share a commitment to engaging in a diverse professional community that is growing in its DEIJ principles and practices.
Preferred qualifications include:
- A demonstrated ability to lead high levels of student learning.
- Experience in American or other international school curriculum and program models
- An aptitude for building and maintaining positive relationships with students, colleagues and parents.
- Willingness to collaborate with high school teachers
- Experience with UDL unit planning, co-planning and co-teaching.
- Recent IBDP or MYP training and current high school teaching certification.
- Strong understanding and respect for a diversity of cultures and the needs of language learners.
- Experience leading an advisory class or involvement in pastoral care, with a focus on student well-being, mentorship and personal development.
- Has life experiences that demonstrate, among other things, a growth mindset, versatility, adaptability and resilience.
- A commitment to engaging in a diverse professional community that is growing in its DEI principles and practices.
- Effective communication skills utilizing a variety of mediums and techniques.
