Early Years Homeroom Teacher

Kaohsiung American School (KAS) Elementary School is seeking a thoughtful, reflective, and nurturing Early Years Homeroom Teacher to join our vibrant learning community. The successful candidate will demonstrate a deep understanding of early childhood development and a commitment to creating learning experiences that are responsive to children’s curiosity, interests, and developmental needs. Learning in our Early Years classrooms is play-based, inquiry-driven, and relationship-centered, with teachers intentionally designing environments and experiences that invite exploration, creativity, communication, and meaning-making. Educators view themselves as co-learners and facilitators, using observation, documentation, and reflection to guide instruction and support each child’s growth.

Required Qualifications include:

  • A minimum of three years of teaching experience in an early childhood, elementary, or international school setting
  • A valid elementary or early childhood teaching license
  • Experience teaching within a U.S.-based or international curriculum framework
  • Strong understanding of developmentally appropriate practice for young learners

Preferred Qualifications Include:

  • Experience designing child-centered, inquiry-based learning experiences that emerge from students’ questions, interests, and ideas
  • Ability to create intentional learning environments using open-ended materials, learning centers, and thoughtfully designed spaces that promote independence, collaboration, and problem-solving
  • Strong knowledge of early literacy development, including oral language, phonological awareness, emergent reading, and early writing through play and authentic experiences
  • Experience supporting early numeracy, including number sense, patterning, spatial awareness, measurement, and mathematical thinking through hands-on exploration
  • Skill in using observation and documentation to inform planning, assessment, and communication with families
  • Experience collaborating in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) and contributing to shared planning, reflection, and professional growth
  • Experience with collaborating and working with instructional coaches
  • Confidence in using technology to document learning, communicate with families, and enhance instructional practice

Kaohsiung American School (KAS) is a private, not-for-profit day school established in 1989 for the children of expatriate families in Kaohsiung. The school is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, and offers the IB’s MYP and DP programmes. We receive annual grants and sponsorship from the US Department of State.

Kaohsiung American School moved into its beautiful, purpose-built campus buildings in 2015/2016. We are recognized as the premier international school in southern Taiwan. We currently enroll 790 students from 40+ countries, although most of our students share Taiwanese heritage and Mandarin as a first language.
